1.1. Can insurance reimburse any of the expense for a stairchair?

A. The cost is not reimbursed by Medicare. Check your insurance policy to determine what applies to you.

1.2. Is it possible for me to install my own stairway chair lift?

A. It is not legal for just anyone to install a commercial stair lift in California or Nevada. The installer is required to hold a state contractor’s license (C11 in California) license. Nevada also requires a license. A residential lift is normally not inspected in California and Nevada. However, it will be inspected post-installation in Arizona. For safety reasons, it is wise to have it correctly installed by a licensed technician.

1.3. Can you install on all types of stairs?

A. Yes, stairchairs can be installed on straight, curved, or spiral stairs. Width of the stair is critical.

1.4. How are Stairway Chair Lifts installed?

A. Stairway chair lifts are attached to the stairs themselves. They do not attach to any wall. They use mounting brackets that attach to the floor and are used roughly every 3 steps.

1.5. Can you put in a stairchair outside?

A. Yes. There are outdoor models manufactured to protect it from various weather conditions.

1.6. What electrical is required?

A. Normal household power of 110v is perfectly adequate to operate the stair chair.

1.7. Do Stairway Chair Lifts still work in a power failure?

A. Yes, most will. The stair lift must be ordered as a battery powered stair lift, which uses a 24v DC battery which is charged at both the top and the bottom of the stairs. The stair lift will continue to operate in a power failure for approximately 5 rides. Having charge points rather than a trailing cable reduces wear and avoids the need for extensive wiring. * Up and down = 1 ride, dependent on user weight and length of stairs.

1.8. What is the capacity of a stair chair?

A. This will vary by manufacturer and model. A stair chair can be rated up to 400 pounds.

1.9. How long does it take to get a Stairway Chair Lift?

A. Straight run lifts are in stock and usually can be installed the same week. Curved stair chairs are specials and are factory ordered.
